Log Scale Chart With Customer Values On y-axis

I have a chart with a log base 10 scale on the y-axis. I would like the chart to display the y-axis in decibels (dB) instead of linear values. I don't want to modify my data to do this, is there a way to make a custom number format to do this? Example below:

I'm not sure what you mean by "I don't want to modify my data". It is not clear to me what you are trying to do here. Is the first chart the one you want, or the second chart? I am not aware of any way to convert chart 1 into chart 2 (or chart 2 into chart 1) using only number formatting. It seems to me that the way you have done it in your sample (computing the desired value in a helper column and using that series to create the chart) is the easiest way to do what I think you want to do.

I would like to make the second chart from the first chart without making a second set of data with the linear to dB conversion. I was hoping it was possible to just somehow use the custom number format code in the "format axis" options or some other way to do it. Although it's not looking like it's possible in Excel.
