Secondry Axis

Hi,
I need to plot a set of data on a secondry axis . I know basically how to do it. But problem is data on the secondry axis does not have the same Horizontal axis. For example first set of data is foe each month from Jan-Dec and second set of data is withing the same time interval but quarterly( Jan,april, Aug, nov). How Do I plot this on same graph?? Help me please

What chart type, XY scatter or other? What type of horizontal axis, value, date, category? (If you are unfamiliar with these terms, I would suggest this description: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/ChartsH...ValueAxis.html )

If your data are actual dates so that you can use a Scatter/value or a date axis, then it should be straightforward. If your data/axis are category/string data, then you will need to do something with the data arrangement in the spreadsheet (Sucuri does not want to let me post the sample today, but it involves two data series, with =na() values for the empty months in the quarterly data set).

Graph.xlsxThanks lot for the quick help. I have attached the table that I need line graph. I can create general time scale from 1947-2015 for both set of data. But data on column B are not on same dates as column D. For example column B data is for every month and column D data is for every quarter. Can I plot both set of data on a single horizontal time scale with two secondry vertical axis. I am not sure how to do this as both data not on same dates but withing same time scale Please see table attachedAttachment 437773

This sort of thing tends to be less obvious on a line chart than on a scatter chart, but a scatter chart does not offer the nice "date axis" that a line chart offers.

Because I rarely have a need for a date axis, I prefer to do this sort of thing in a scatter chart.

1) Select columns A and B and insert a scatter chart.
2) Depending on Excel's whims, the result of step 1 may or may not be right. Go into the "select data" dialog and adjust the ranges for series 1 as needed to get dates on the x axis and values on the y axis.
3) While in the select data dialog, add a second data series that uses column D as the y values and column C as the X values.
4) Format the chart as desired, including formatting the second series to be on the secondary y axis.
