Howdy y'all,
I have an excel workbook with data and charts in it. I have linked the charts to certain slides in a PowerPoint file. Both files were saved on a network drive prior to making the links and again after making them. When I open the files on the computer that I created the links on, everything works fine and dandy and the links update within a couple of seconds, but, when I or anyone else opens them on any other computer on the network, everything goes to heck.
When opened from another computer, it starts out ok but after clicking 'Update Links", we get a message that says the excel file is already open. We click OK or the red X on the message box but the message comes right back. It gets stuck in this loop until you go to task manager and end task on both the excel file and the PowerPoint file. On the rare occasions that it does work properly, it takes about 3-5 minutes for the links to update as opposed to the 2-3 seconds it takes on the original computer.

I have redone the links several times but nothing changes.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this is happening???

P.S.
The way the charts are linked is:
Copy the chart from Excel
Choose Paste Special in the PowerPoint
Select Paste Link in the Paste special Dialog box
Select Microsoft Excel Chart Object
Click OK
