    plotting specified range of data

I have an excel function that returns the position of a date in excel. I want to get two dates in a range and plot between them. Ive found some tutorials online talking about dynamic charts and various functions but nothing worked. I am using excel 2015 on a mac. How can I do this? I would also appreciate a good FREE excel tutorial.

My first thought is to simply use the built in Autofilter utility: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-AutoFilter-in-MS-Excel Set up the chart so that it refers to the desired columns of the entire list, then filter the list. The chart should update with the filter to only display the visible, filtered data.

Im confused as to how autofilter could help me. Doesn't auto filter just order your data? Im trying to plot, lets say, items 4 through 6, in a list of 10 items, and I know that 4 and 6 are in cells A5 and A7.

Sorting is one thing that a list can do, but it is by no means the only thing a filter can do. To paraphrase from the tutorial I linked to,

If wikihow's tutorial failed to illustrate, this tutorial includes an example for filtering between dates http://www.contextures.com/xlautofilter01.html see "Filtering for a specific date range" about half way down the page.
