    Conditional Formatting for Pivot Tables

    Hi All,

I've been trying to apply conditional formatting to my pivot table but ive noticed when I expand or collapse fields the formatting goes off.

    https://www.extendoffice.com/documen...ormatting.html

This website says there is a formatting options button that allows me to apply formatting rule specifically for the pivot table.

But in my excel (2010) I cannot get this options button to appear so I can't properly conditional format my pivot table.

Any ideas why button isnt appearing?

Re: Conditional Formatting for Pivot Tables

    I must be dense :[

In the Apply Rule To section, there are 3 options, and the Selected cells option is selected.
The Selected cells option works in many cases, but if you rearrange the pivot table, or add new data, the conditional formatting may not adjust correctly.
The second option, All Cells Showing "Sum of Sales" Values, might include too many cells, such as subtotals, and Grand Totals.
The third option, All Cells Showing "Sum of Sales" Values for "Date" and"Territory," is the best option for this pivot table. It restricts the formatting to cells where the Date and Territory values appear, and it excludes the subtotals and the Grand Totals.
Click on the option -- All cells showing "Sum of Sales" values for "Date" and "Territory"
    pivot table with conditional formatting
Click OK twice, to close the windows.

I dont see 3 options here. Am I missing something. I just see the space where I can choose a range.

not entirely sure what you are trying to format
conditional formats is one of those things you need to be exact in what you are asking in the specific scenario you have

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

    Hi Humdingaling,

I've attached a sample file here. I also included a picture of what I am trying to achieve.

    Hi,

Those options are only available if you have selected cells in the data field area (and no other cells).

Re: Conditional Formatting for Pivot Tables

Sorry 1 more question. I have in column M of sheet 1 a formula to capture departure period.

But when I put it in the pivot table it does not show as .. i.e. B-April to June, it shows a numeric figure for date instead.

    How can I remedy this?

You need only refresh your pivot table.
