    Shade Variance b/w two graphs

    Hi All,

I have a model similar to what is discussed in this thread:
    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-char...-in-graph.html

Actuals/Forecast not linear; changing highs/lows, etc.

I'd like to show the distance (variance) between Actuals and Forecast shaded; I would also like to restrict the shading to exclude half the year (after june)
    - is this possible?
    - how would you do this?

    Thank you

Re: Shade Variance b/w two graphs

Can you help us understand exactly what you are looking for? In the other thread, the OP was not looking for shading/fill between the series, but it sounds like you are. The solution in the other thread involved adding a third series with data labels and formatting to include "error bars" to connect the high and low values at each point. If that is what you are looking for, what parts of Andy's tutorial did you have trouble with?

In this thread, I described how to add an error bar as an arrow to show the difference between two lines, Jon Peltier included a description using a fancier arrow shape: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-char...wo-graphs.html -- very similar to Andy Pope's from the other thread, without the text data labels to indicate how much each difference is.

If you are looking for "shading" between series, just about any technique I can think of will be rooted in some kind of area or stacked area chart. I might suggest trying a simple stacked area based on column B and D (not C) and see how close that comes to what you want. I would note that, if the "smoothed" line look is important, it is going to be difficult to match that kind of smooth curve with an area chart "fill" technique, so you may consider how important having those formatted as smooth lines is.
