Suppress zero values in a pie chart

    Hi there,

I have a pivot table looking at audit checks, and the number of fails on those checks, and a pie chart pointing to that pivot. You can filter the pivot by month, and sometimes, the error values will be zero.

I want the pie chart to ignore zero values, which may chop and change as you change the filter.

I cannot for the life of me find a solution to this - and online help seems to focus on deselecting zero from the filter but it's month, not values.

    I've attached my spreadsheet.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

    Hi,

Without code I'm not sure there is a quick solution to that. You could define a calculated field for each value you want to use using the formula
    =1/1/'field name'
which would return an error for each 0 field and that would not be plotted. You can suppress the errors from displaying in the pivot if you want.

As a side note, I would strongly recommend you use a different type of chart - probably a bar chart, which would make the text axis more legible than a column chart. It will be much easier to read and compare values than a pie chart.

    Hi nitwit

I really wanted the chart to point to the pivot, but I have found a sort-of work-around online by applying an auto filter outside of the pivot, on the column with values in and you can deselect 0 from here. However if the pivot changes, the filter goes wrong so you have to remember to select all again on the auto filter before changing the pivot.

You're totally right about the pie chart - the spreadsheet already used the pie (the tab is called 'Pie chart' so I think the user really likes it ) - but I've done a bar graph next to it and will try to convince the user it looks loads better.
