Charting a variable with month-day, but no year

I wish to plot two variables in a chart with year-only values on the X-axis and month/day-only values on the Y-axis. So far I have not been able to figure this out because of the restrictive nature of Excels date function. Using the below values as an example I would like to have the X-axis show the years in chronological order from left to right and the Y-axis show the month/day values in chronological order from bottom to top; and the month day values should appear as the shown text and not be converted to a numerical value by Excel. One of the problems I see is getting the month/day values to distribute correctly along the axis according to the calendar. I am using Excel for Mac 2017

2007 March 3
2008 March 10
2009 February 28
2010 March 7
2011 March 13
2012 March 5

I can get the same chart but my Y-axis labels show up as the numerical value equivalents of the month/day text. Any idea how I switch them?

That is about how I want it to look but I can't figure out how you got it to look like that. I can't select the chart and look at the formating.

Mine isn't done as a chart as such - it's just a formula copied into the cells to look like a chart.

I figured out how to get it to appear as month/day text by changing the formating under Number/custom. Thanks
