Dynamic Chart works but keeps giving errors when my page is empty, frustrating to fill out

I built a successful dynamic chart--simple with categories and expenses.

If I clear out all the test items I've been using i keep getting an error (with the beep and dialogue box) like this:

"excel found a problem with one or more formula references in this worksheet. check that the cell reference, range names, defined names, and links to other workbooks in your formulas are all correct."

If I keep at least one line filled it's fine--and I can work around to never have a blank screen.

Is this something that comes with dynamic charts? That because it's always re-defining the table ranges it doesn't like to see...."nothing"?
