Problem when drawing in an imported spss chart.

Hello i am very new to Excel, i started using it since my supervisor said its the best place to edit my SPSS charts.
I am trying to colour dots and then connecting dots with lines in an image. The image is a chart i exported from SPSS and then opened in excel.
I have managed to do the tasks in excel but when i try to copy it and paste it anywhere else the changes made in excel wont follow, they wont even follow if i drag the picture around in excel.
Is there a way to make these changes stick or do i have to make a new chart in excel for the possibility to do these changes? I have to display them in a word document and in an power point presentation.
The changes to the chart stays when i convert it to an PDF and open it but the changes do not follow when i copy it from the PDF into a word document.

This is all very confusing, any help is appreciated and as mentioned i am very new to excel.
