Stop Pivot from updating as I change fields

I know in VBA I can stop my pivot from updating while I'm moving fields around, but is there a way to do that in the user interface when I'm simply moving fields around? One of my source pivots (not one I created) has a lot of calculated fields and a ton of data. The default arrangement doesn't satisfy, so I have to remove some fields, add others, and move everything around. Each step causes the Pivot to recalculate, which is very slow. At some point I will write a macro to do this for me, but I'm wondering if there's a way to make the user interface a little easier by telling my pivot to "wait until I've finished my changes, THEN calculate".
    I know I'm not stupid, but I suspect I'm a lot stupider than I think I am

    Hello,

In Excel 2016 there is an option in the pivot fields pane to "Defer Layout Update". I'm not sure if it already exists in 2013, but it's not included in Excel 2010. Any chance you could upgrade to 2016?

    cheers, teylyn

    Hi Jomili,

I found a site explaining what teylyn is talking about. If you click on the "Pivot Field List" icon it will show at the bottom. See

    http://www.pivot-table.com/2010/09/1...-table-layout/

I have no idea which version that first happened in Excel either.

It was introduced in 2007, I believe- I don't recall it being present in 2003 though you could do it through code.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I was away for the weekend.

Teylyn, MarvinP, and XLNitWit, thank you, thank you, thank you!

That was exactly what I was looking for. I never knew that was there. That's going to make life so much easier!
