Whisker/boxplot chart with standard devation and average?

Hello, im making a new post to continue my charting problem with another chartstyle

The problem im having right now is that I cant figure out how to use stdav and avg in my boxplot instead of only avg and quartiles.

I would like the boxplots to visually aswell as with numbers if possible show my stdav and avg, check my example file to see what I have right now.

This might be exactly what you are looking for. https://peltiertech.com/excel-box-an...ams-box-plots/.

peltiertech.com is the site to go to for any charting question.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Yes hello, I can not replicate the thing going on in that tutorial, for example they say that I should add the new data like stdav by using "paste special", this doesnt work at all as I have to create the chart from scratch and I cant add data to it later. I just need the stdav values to be shown on my example whisker chart.

From what I understand I have to add the stdav data as new bars on top of the others and then change them to whiskers or whatever I want but I cant add data to my whisker chart., and also my blue/left boxplot is collapsing to a line for some reason? Can I fix this ?

When I open your file, the charts are marked with something like "this chart type is not available in your version of Excel" -- which suggests to me that these are "box and whisker" chart types available only in Excel 2016 (your profile says 2013 -- which version are you using?).

Having long used Jon's tutorials, I would point out that Jon's tutorial is based on using a regular stacked column/bar chart for building the box and whisker diagram. My limited experience with these specialty charts in the newest version of Excel is that they are not very flexible. If what you want does not readily fit into Excel's template, then you can't do what you want. This would be a possible explanation for why you cannot paste an additional data series into the chart.

    I see two choices:

    1) Continue with the built in specialty chart and find a tutorial that explains how to do what you want with the built in chart -- Recognizing that it may be impossible. All I can do is suggest: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...8-4743f6190f0d

    2) Do it the old fashioned way as described in Jon's tutorial from start to finish -- build the box and whisker chart as a stacked column/bar chart. Because it is based on a standard chart rather than a specialty chart, this approach will allow greater flexibility, and I am confident that what you want can be achieved this way.

Which approach do you want to take?

Yes, I am using the 2016 whisker update as it does instantly create what I want, however there is no way to customize my chart i guess? I can manage to create the stdav pointers in 1 chart and the rest in another but its actually impossible to combine ?

Guess I will have to try and do it completely manually, to avoid the bar collapse also.

In normal bar charts you have settings like shown here

But in the new whisker chart "add chart element" doesnt have that even tho its just a calculation of the data in the chart? Seemed like it could be implemented

I agree, that this seems like something Microsoft could have implemented in Excel, and I cannot explain why they didn't. All I know is that many of the new specialty charts built into 2016 do not have many seemingly simple options implemented.

Try Jon's tutorial linked above. It should not be overly difficult. A few simple helper columns for differences between the quartiles and any other calculations needed, then build a relatively simple stacked bar/column chart or stacked bar/column + line/scatter combination chart.
