How can I create horizontal standard devation lines instead of the vertical error bar

I am capturing data in a table and graphing it using excel 2007. I have added vertical error bars to show 2 standard deviation units. This works well, however, as I capture more and more data, the graph becomes cluttered.

How can I create horizontal standard deviation lines that automatically update as the data is entered?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Can you post example of what you currently have.

I will need to extract it from my model and that will take a little while - I will post as soon as I can. Thanks, Chris

    Hi,

I have attached an example of what I am doing now. Ideally, I would like to see horizontal standard deviation lines - 3 on top and three on bottom of the mean.

Thanks for your interest. I hope you can help!

You just need to calculate the values for the additional series.

Re: How can I create horizontal standard devation lines instead of the vertical error

    Hi Andy,

I would like each line of standard deviation to be horizontal and straight; i.e, as new data is entered, the values for the column for standard deviation, using your suggestion, to be that same. For example, one standard deviation from the mean might represent 2 after two entries and 3 after 5 entries; I would like the entire line to be horizontal at 3 after 5 entries. In essence, the error lines recalculate the standard deviation and post vertical lines. I like this calculation but not the clutter.

If your solution gets me where I need to be, I just have not figured out how to do it.

    Thanks for your continued help.

    Chris

If you make everything part of the table then formula/data and chart will auto update as new records are added.
