    Plotting time series data with different intervals

    Hi all,

    Hope everyone had a solid weekend.

    I am running into a bit of trouble on my latest task and was wondering if you could help out.

    Basically I have two different Mutual Funds and I want to track their performance over a certain period of time using their price changes. The issue is as follows;

    For the one Fund I have the prices for each week of the year and for the other fund I have the prices only at the end of the month and therefore have a lot less data points. I am trying to get both of this data on the same graph because they are both over the same period. Please advise.

    Thanks in advance.

    What are you required to have in this chart? Because I see you needing to make a choice:

    1) Easiest might be to change from a line chart to a scatter chart, then simply add the second data series as a new series (with appropriate x and y ranges). You will lose the nice "date axis" that allows tick marks for each month or quarter or year, but will be limited to fixed numbers of days between tick marks.
    2) If you are unwilling to give up the date axis, the next easiest would be to add your second data series with appropriate x and y ranges, and move the second data series to the secondary axis system. Format both horizontal axes to have the same max and min limits, and format both y axes to have the same limits.
    3) If you don't like using the secondary axis system, then you can combine your 2 date columns into a single column with all dates, and plot both data series (with blank cells in appropriate places) against the same x axis range. I did this by copying the dates in column F and pasting them beneath the existing dates in column A. Then copying column G and pasting them adjacent to these appended dates in column C. Build line chart using columns A, C, and D.

    I'm sure there are more elaborate things that could be done, but those seem like three easy options.
