Jump to the end of the line

I work with tables sometimes very wide. At first when entering the data, I'd like to know if there is a option that when I enter the data at the last cell of the line the curser will jump to the beginning of next line.

Re: Jump to the end of the line

Hi
you could do this with a selection change even but I'd advise against it. They can be destabilising and make your sheet slower. Can i suggest a simple macro activated by a shortcut key. This macro will select the cell in column A of the active cell's row

or this version will take you to column A but the row below

to add a shortcut, click on macros in the code area of the developer tab, select GoHome and click on options, then enter a shortcut key eg Control+Shift+H. then pressing Control+Shift+H will activate the macro.

You could "unprotect" the data entry area, then protect the sheet
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Highlight the table, go to "Format>Protection and untick the Locked tickbox, then Protect the Sheet setting it to Unlocked cells only.

This will only allow you to select the table's cells and will drop to the start of the next row when you pass the end of a row.

Sorry but I'm not familiar with macros. I entered the last piece of data on a specific row. Now what?

Hi Ramn

you have been offered two very different ways of dealing with the issue, and i think mine is inferior.

The way suggested by the other two contributors would restrict the area of the worksheet where you can enter data. When you get to the end of that range you will automatically be taken to the next line. following pjwhitfield's instructions will set that up for you.

If you want to try the macro method instead, press Alt+F11 to enter the VBA area and select insert module. Copy my code from the post above and paste it here. Then you can assign a shortcut to it as described above and run it quicky whenever you reach the end of a row.

Re: Jump to the end of the line

if I understand your solution I need to select an area for it to work. If so it isn't what I need. I need an option that after entering the data on the last cell the curser will "jump" to the first cell of the next row

Re: Jump to the end of the line

Hi Ramn
if you want to jump to the first cell of the next row then the method described by jwhitfield will do that. When you create an unlocked area in a protected sheet as s/he describes, you will only be able to select cells in that area. So when you get to the last row of your table and press right, it will take you to the first cell in the row below.
