How to exclude numbers from a list

    Hi
i have a list of daily sales and i have created a pivot table to sum the sales by customers, called daily sales summary. But in the customers column there are some random numbers other than the text (customer names). My question is that, how can i exclude all those numbers from the pivot table?

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

its difficult to add attach a file at the moment. So is there anyone who understands what i am saying here? I just want to "filter" the customers column in the pivot table, so that all texts will be visible. At the moment i can manually do that by deselecting any number in the list but i want to simplify this process.

Why is it difficult to attach a file? Help us to help you!!!

I suspect you will have to create a new table with the numbers filtered out, then base your pivot table on this.

By the way, I understand perfectly what you are saying.

You could add a new formula column to the source data using a formula like:

    =ISERROR(--C2)

where C2 is the first cell in the name column. Then use this column as a report filter for the pivot table, filtering for True. That will exclude any number values.
