Pivot Table - Selecting only Specific Columns of Data to Pivot

    Hi All,

Please I need help with how to select only specific columns of data when constructing a Pivot Table.

I know that in order to set up a Pivot Table, I am required to click any cell within the data that I wish to use for my Pivot Table. All the columns containing the data will eventually be highlighted. However, I have a situation where I have data in about 20 columns, but I need to construct a Pivot Table based on data in only selected five (5) out of the twenty (20) columns. I have to determine and select the five columns: They could be, for example, columns 3, 5, 9, 16, 19, or any other number of columns that I have to determine.

I should be grateful for any help on how to do this, to avoid all the 20 columns being highlighted.

    Thanks for your help.

    PS: I use Excel 2007

    Syrkrasi,

It might have been a wrong judgement on my part by thinking that a sample workbook was not necessary for my request. In any case, I do not believe that such thinking warrants you choosing to be rude to me.

I have decided not to meet your response with an absence of discipline and respect as you have done - moreso, as I believe this forum is not one where insults should be traded. I have, therefore, chosen to forgive you.

My suggestion is that, in future, if a thread does not inspire you, and you do not feel you should provide a polite advice to the author, ignore the thread and move on to the next one. You will not be guillotined for doing so. It is important that, as members, we all should elect to bow to the discipline of this wonderful forum.

    Thank you.

Re: Pivot Table - Selecting only Specific Columns of Data to Pivot

It's possible with Alt+D+P (Pivot Table and Pivot Chart Wizard) but you need to select two columns next to each other and then all the columns defined by you. Of course, the redundant column does not have to be used in PT.
    In this case:
I have to determine and select the five columns: They could be, for example, columns 3, 5, 9, 16, 19, or any other number of columns that I have to determine.
select 3,4,5,9,16,19 where column 4 is neccessary to create PT from multiple ranges.

Selection can be 3,5,8,9,16,19 also. or any other choice.

    hope it will help

If that takes care of your original question, please click on Add Reputtion (bottom left corner of the post of the person(s) who helped you) then select Thread Tools from the menu (top right corner of your thread) and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.

I see no such stipulation in the forum rules.
