Mapping two sets of data to one single point on scatter graph

Hi everyone, happy to be joining this community.

I have looked everywhere for a solution for this, perhaps I'm not asking the question correctly - apologies if this has been asked before and I'm simply unable to google it right!

I'm trying to map the numbers in two columns to one single point on a scatter graph to have one single point visualization of the size of different teams in my company and their success rates across their goals. Currently, the best I'm able to do is to have one point for each column (i.e a point for Team A Number of members and another for Team A Success Rate). What I'm trying to achieve is probably best explained in the attached file. I drew the result I'm aiming for in Paint and added to the file.

I've tried editing the axis, re-selecting the data in a number of different ways but to no avail.

Thank you very much for any help with this!

I'm not sure I understand your question. Your picture does not look any different from a typical scatter graph. In order to match your picture, I:

    1) Select B3:C8
    2) Insert -> Chart -> Scatter chart
2a) If Excel fails to parse the data ranges correctly, edit the data series using the Select Data dialog so that B3:B8 is the X values for the data series and C3:C8 is the Y values.
    3) Select the data series -> format selection -> vary colors by point.
    4) Add data labels to the data series -> Select "values from cells" and use A3:A8 as the data labels text.

That should be real close to your hand drawn picture. Is that what you want?

Hi MrShorty and thank you very much for your reply.

This did the trick! I'm not sure what my mistake was. I think I added column A to my original data series when I created the graph and that messed it up.

Problem solved, thank you for your help!

Re: Mapping two sets of data to one single point on scatter graph

I've found that Excel incorrectly parses my desired data series quite frequently. That is why I include that step 2a in there. If you wanted to fix the "best I've been able to get chart" after it is created, you could:

    1) right click on the chart -> Select Data to bring up the select data dialog.
    2) In the list of Legend entries (series), remove one of the data series. Then edit the other data series and tell it to use the appropriate ranges for each field (name, X values, Y values).
    3) Other formatting as needed.

I'm going to give that a go too! Always good to learn an extra option on how to solve/do this.

    Many thanks again MrShorty!
