    Unable to Plot Graph correctly (Possibly just a Graph Type Issue)

    Hi, I am trying to plot the following data into a graph; I am not sure how to do this or even if i am selecting the wrong graph. The sheet is also attached

    GraphData.png

    I wish to chart the data using a line graph, so it looks like the one I have hacked together in Powerpoint;

    However, Excel is plotting it like this;

    In an Excel chart, any text, including the "x" character, is considered a value of 0. In order to get the chart you want, you will need to assign some kind of numeric value to those "x" characters and use those numbers to create the chart.

    I am not sure how this all fits into your overall project, so I am not sure what to recommend*. However, I expect that when all is said and done, you are looking for something very similar to this "vertical category axis" tutorial: https://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts...egoryAxis.html The idea is to make a scatter chart with appropriate x and y values to position the data points where you want them, then have a "dummy axis series" that you can label with the appropriate text along the vertical axis.

    I would also draw your attention to the end of the tutorial where he links to a "dot plot" tutorial where he builds something similar as a combination bar + xy scatter chart. The bar chart provides the text labels on the vertical axis and the scatter chart provides the points/lines.

    * Starting with what you have -- in case there is not good way to implement this "upstream" of building this table, here's what I did (going with the dot plot combination bar + scatter chart approach):

    Spreadsheet setup:
    1) In L6:L15, I entered 0.95, 0.85,... to represent the desired vertical value for each category.
    2) In B17, I used a simple lookup function to return the value from column L based on the position of the "x" in that column =INDEX($L$6:$L$15,MATCH("x",B6:B15,0)). Copied B17 and pasted into C17:K17.
    3) I need a dummy column/series for the bar chart portion of the combination chart, so I enter 0's into M6:M15.
    Chart creation and formatting
    4) Select A6:A16,L6:M16 (select A6:A16 -> press and hold control -> select L6:M16).
    5) Insert chart -> bar chart. I will have a bar chart with two data series.
    6) Select the column L series (series 1) -> change chart type -> xy scatter.
    7) Bring up the select data dialog -> select the column L series (series 1) -> Edit -> Y values is B17:K17 -> X values is B5:K5
    8) Format scatter chart's vertical axis to have fixed min of 0 and a fixed max of 1
    9) Other formats as desired.
