    X-axis Interval Issue

    Excel 2019

I am having difficulty finding an easy way to change the line chart X-axis intervals from the default (1) to a larger set scale number such as 10, 15, 20, etc. I have attached a file with a sample chart. I have tried to use the methods found in:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/art...9-25d2c83a8450

but, changing the interval in that input cell does not result in any change in how the axis numbers display.

If you click on the chart and expand (or contract) the chart horizontally, the axis numbers will proportionately change, but only using Excel default methodology.

The only work around I could find was to develop helper columns with the desired numeric interval scales and use those. That seems so cumbersome. Maybe there is a another way and I just haven’t gone down the correct path yet. Thanks!

Your file included a mention of a question and answer and superuser where it was suggested to use an XY scatter chart rather than a line chart. Even before I read the superuser link, but especially after reading it, I am wondering why you are using a line chart instead of a scatter chart.

I saw the scatter chart and how the axis numbers were in larger intervals but the shotgun blast appearance wasn't what I wanted. Maybe there is a way to get a solitary line representation and preserve that interval spacing. I'll continue to explore. Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "shotgun blast" appearance. A scatter chart (subtype line without markers) should have no trouble showing a solitary line connecting all of the data data points just like your line chart. It should look almost exactly like your line chart, but with the ability to control the spacing along the horizontal x axis like a value rather than a category axis.

Having difficulty finding the "subtype line without markers" option for that scatter chart. That will likely be the answer once I find it. Thanks!
