    Lightbulb Plot multiple lines

    Hi,

I have a number of segments i want to plot in a XY chart as shown below. Ideally every coordinate is in the same line as shown in the sample/screenshot, due to the list increasing/decreasing depending on other inputs.

Is there any way to plot these "bars" as single segments as i've tried to show? Thanks in advance

    Re: Plot multiple lines

I'm not sure what you have tried, but it looks like it should be as simple as editing each data series to use the appropriate x and y ranges:

    1) Select Chart and bring up the Select Data dialog.
    2) Select series 1 from the list of "Legend Entries"/data series
    3) Select/clear the text from the yvalues field and choose F6:G6
    4) Select/clear the text from the Xvalue field and choose D6:E6
    5) Repeat steps 2 through 4 for all data series.

Is that what you are trying to do?

That is what i am trying to achieve, although your solution that still causes a bit of a headache.

As the number of items (named sample) are dynamic and could range between 1 and 50 that would still require me to choose the corresponding x/y values of every series in the table. Do you know any more efficient way to do this to make it dynamic?

    Re: Plot multiple lines

Are you required to arrange and chart the data like this in the spreadsheet? The main thing that makes this tedious is that the data are arranged in a way that is very different from the way that Excel likes to see chart data. The first suggestion that I see for making this less tedious is to arrange the data in a way that Excel will be able to recognize what is supposed to x data and what is supposed to be y data. Something like this maybe:

Then select the table and insert your scatter chart.

Another possibility. Are you lines always horizontal/vertical like in the example? If so, do something with a single point + error bar per point.

Select the first three columns and insert a scatter chart. Then select the data series and add error bars. format the horizontal error bars to use the values from cells in the 4th column for the positive error bar only. Repeat for the vertical error bars and the 5th column.

    Re: Plot multiple lines

Managed to find another way around so that the data does not have to be structured in a single row. Thanks a lot though, appreciate it.
