Legend Spacing is HUUUUGE

I added a new series to a chart and all of a sudden the spacing on the legend went HUGE. I can't seem to figure out how to adjust. Google digs up answers that don't seem to apply the the version of excel that I'm using.

Any ideas?

charts have properties. can't you open them and manipulate it accordingly? not to mention the fact that in the first image, you seem to have 2 differentiated square areas. one nested inside another. and in the bottom image, all of the content, the legend included, is in one enclosed area. do you see that?

The second selected "square" happens when you select an item within the chart, whether it's the title, the x-axis or legend (etc). You end up with a selection box around the element you're editing as well as the overall chart.

In the second image, only the overall chart is selected because I haven't selected anything specific within the chart area to edit.

What "properties" menu/tab am I supposed to open to edit spacing? As you can see there is a properties drawer on the right hand side of the image with options, none of which control line spacing for the legend.

Any ideas?

by properties, I meant the dialog boxes associated with every element of a chart. for instance, the graph itself, the legend, the lines in the chart, etc, etc....

literally everything can be manipulated and/or changed through a menu in the interface.

The line spacing in the legends is fixed. It defaults to double line spacing every time. And none of the above suggestions work.
I can't access paragraph settings while in a chart, and the useless format chart area section does not have a paragraph option and half the text options are greyed out.
(Even though grey I can see that there is no option to fix.)
Resizing the legend text box does not work, and reformatting the whole chart does not work.
Once again Microsoft has tried so hard to be helpful that they've become useless.
