Hi,
I would like to create a box and whisker plot in Excel that displays the mean, the standard error of the mean as the boxes and the standard deviation as the whiskers. When I try to do it myself I can only manage to create a box and whisker plot with the interquartile range as the boxes and the minimum/maximum values as the whiskers. I've tried to search for solutions for a couple of hours, but to no avail. It would mean a lot if anyone here could help me out!

Upon opening your file, I see that you are using the new specialty box and whisker chart type. In my experience (from the outside looking in so to speak) most of these new specialty chart types are very limited in their options. If you cannot readily find options for using something other than quartiles for the box and whisker points, those options may not be available as part of the new specialty charts.

However, most of these specialty charts were easily created in older versions of Excel using various basic chart types (and combinations). For your example, a box and whisker chart can easily be created as a stacked column chart. The advantage of the "old fashioned" way of doing this is you have the flexibility of defining your values in any way you want. Compute the necessary values (mean, standard error, standard deviation, and various ancillary data as needed) in the spreadsheet, then build the chart as a stacked column chart.
