Question Dashboard combining data from two data tables and linking pivots

    Good afternoon -

I am working on building a dashboard to display data for my team's metrics. I have one data table of names and hours of work completed, the other is a names and quality defects. I have a dashboard that I can click on a name inside of a slicer from a pivot and show all of the hours data in a chart, then using a poor mans pivot I use a bunch of SUMIF functions to pull in the quality data to all be represented on one dashboard. Is it possible to connect that slicer to the second pivot table so I don't need to use two. I have tried to establish a relationship but since the names of the employees are duplicates within the columns as the data is given overtime I cannot make that relationship. I have even gone as far as a VBA script to send a new value to the filter field of the second pivot but unless I click in the updated cell the second pivot doesn't update.

Ideally I could create a data model to connect the tables but as I mentioned I want to pivot off of the name of the employee, but since it is months worth of data the columns contain duplicates and i cannot make that relationship.

Re: Dashboard combining data from two data tables and linking pivots

Hello WIFG and Welcome to Excel Forum.
It seems to me that a third data table with the distinct names could be made and used that to produce a connection between the existing data tables.
After that then pivot tables could be produced that each use the names from the new table.
I believe that the two pivot tables could then be controlled by the same slicer.
To get more specific help please utilize the banner at the top of the page to upload a workbook containing small samples of the two data tables.
