    External Pivot Tables Question

    Hello!

I have a workbook which has a Pivot Table where the source data is from another workbook on our server.

While building the pivot and testing it, i see "Reading Data" on the source workbook when i Refresh the external pivot.

My question: Is having an external pivot affecting the source workbook? The source workbook is very complex with VBA that has assigned buttons to transfer data from one sheet to another, etc... Does it know it is being read?

I don't want to have it generate an error to the end user or fail to save their work. Both workbooks are located in an IP address in our network so it's not like a "c:\users...." kind of thing.

I don't think that affects the source workbook, it's just that the status bar is changed. I see the same behaviour with other workbooks open even if they have nothing to do with the workbook I am refreshing.

    Thanks Rorya...

These source workbooks are unstable at best. they don't like being saved in an IP address like \\192.138.151.30 for some reason and act weird sometimes. Sometimes if they are being used and you open them they don't tell you READ ONLY for some reason, so i was asking because it appears that all Excel Physics are out the door with this.

    I will try it out.
