What is product in Pivot Table?

I have a series of analysis data for each assay. I want plot a pivot line chart to watch one of the attributes to monitor trend.

I have put date into rows, and the attribute of interest into values.

By default the values groups into Sum which I don't want.

I went through the options and the closest what makes sense is Product, maybe average (since average per assay should be the same as the value) can be used as well.

Just wanted to ensure that choosing product chooses individual values.

Oh, I see. What if I don't want sum, or multiplication. Just values displayed on a chart.

I'll make a sample spreadsheet to upload here momentarily, I don't have original data as that's confidential.

    I have uploaded example file.

I have actually created 3 charts (Sum, Average, Product) to see how they differ. But it seems that to my cause they all work well, because each specimen will have a unique 1 result. So I can probably use any of them for this particular trend analysis.

However, if I analyse by date? How do I trend, as some of the days have multiple values. I don't want to sum them nor average.

    Thanks.

I have used date via Timeline slicer and it works well with the Sum as well. I guess it works fine

Yes, if values are unique, it does not matter if you use SUM, PRODUCT, or AVERAGE as they all come out the same.

As far as charting that - I do not think you can make subgroups of axis items. You can make a helper column in your data that combines the date and the specimen number and then use that results as your axis. I might be wrong tho and someone else might chime in.

Thank you. Actually the subgroups on the X axis is not needed at all. I forgot the get rid of them when creating this example quickly.

I am really falling in love with Pivot tables and charts. I can't believe I did not start using them before.

I actually find plotting standard charts much more difficult.
