How to get average on Pivot when there is non-numeric data?

    Hello,
I have a large data set that is looking at the # of users who submitted requests at each site by date. I am trying to create a pivot table to show me the average of users per quarter per site but it does not allow me because the user ID is non-numeric so I am unable to get an average of the month or average of the quarter for each Site. Does anyone know how to fix this easily within the data set or within the pivot table?
thank you so much! Please see my sample file attached. Much appreciated!

You can use Power Pivot with a couple of measures, as in the attached copy of your workbook.

Thank you Rory! this is exactly what I need. I have not used Power Pivot though. Are you able to explain to me what was done here? I need to be able to do this to my actual data set and I am not sure where to start...

You should be able to simply paste your actual data into the table on the data sheet? If not, let me know and I'll try and walk you through it.
