I've been trying for hours. How do you make a chart from PivotTable data WITHOUT using/going through a PivotChart? I cannot seem to get the control I want over the graph - the PivotChart assumes too many things.

Select a cell somewhere outside of the pivot table. Use Step 1 of the Chart
Wizard to choose the chart type. In step 2 use Chart Source Data Series to
specify the data ranges. Etc.
