double click on the x axis and choose the second tab. Likely it is set up to only show values for every X categories. You can adjust the setting here for whatever variable you would like.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

I am using excel 2007, when I double click the x axis nothing happens, if I right click and select format axis, 'Inteval Between Lables' is set to automatic if I select 'specify interval unit' and set it to 1 (or any other number), it then changes the lables from 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8...... to 1,5,9,13...... but nothing happens with with the month lables??

    You could try:
    • changing the alignment of the axis so that there is more space,
    • make the axis font smaller,
    • change the formatting of the axis to only show months and not days
    • making the graph wider on the page
    Hope one of them helps!

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply

I have tried making more room by making the graph big, well huge really, but no luck.

How do I 'change the formatting of the axis to only show months and not days'?

    'format axis'
    then the number tab
then use a custom format of 'mmm' to show only 3 letter months on the axis.

    hope that helps,
    Tom

    Does this info help?

If I ask excel to produce a chart for Jan and Feb, the Jan and Feb lables appear. If I ask excel to produce a chart for Jan, Feb and March, the Jan,Feb and March lables appear. If I ask excel to produce a chart for Jan, Feb, March and April , only Jan and April lables appear, no matter how big I make the chart.

what happens when you change the category (x) axis labels to row 2 only, instead of rows 2 and 3? You have a diff version of excel to me so i cant quite see all of the worksheet properly and options might not be the same!

ok here is a file i have played around with. I have replaced your lables in row 3 with the correct dates, i.e. 1/1/07 through to 31/12/07. I have then used this row as the x axis labels and altered the propertys so the major and minor units are both equal to one month. I have then applied a custom format to these x axis labels of 'mmm' so that it is only the month that it show...

let me know if this helps

Thanks for that but I really need the dates and the month visable so as to be able to cross referance data?

Is there another way around the problem?
