    Chart question

I have a bunch of data that I need to chart, unfortunately there is too many data points so the graph doesn't look right. Is there a way to graph every point but only have a point like the diamond or square or whatever only every 20 points or so, hope this makes sense, thanks.

    Re: Chart Help

    Hi,

if you're talking line charts, there's a workaround like this:

create a copy of your data and include the copy in the chart, so now each data series is plotted twice. Format the original data series as a line with no markers. Format the second (copied) data series as markers only, but no line. Then go back to your data table and delete those data points that you don't want to see the markers for.

Not very dynamic, but it should help unclutter your chart.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately I have over 1200 data points so deleting them manually is a little much, thanks again.

    Re: Chart Help

    Teylyn,

That's a good work around you suggested.

    Styre,

I have another work around. A bit laborious though. Remove markers or select markers and give them the minimum size. Then select just one marker (make sure others are not selected. If you click on a marker a second time, it selects just one). Then, in the marker options, select automatic and select the type and the size of marker you want. I tested it and it worked for me.

Another alternative is to delete those markers all together and make it a line diagram. Will it make a big difference if you don't have those markers?

    Re: Chart Help

Taking teylyn's suggest a step further.

Use a formula for the second set of data that determines whether to plot the point or not.
In the attached example simply alter B1 to adjust frequency of markers.

The same approach can be used for other conditions such as only displaying Min and Max values.

You won't believe this, but I've not seen Andy's suggestion before now. I was working on exactly the same thing, even the formula is the same.

    There you go....
