    Color Scale Bar Chart

I am trying to produce a chart that corresponds to the Conditional Formatting Color Scales. I have attahced 2 files which show what I am trying to do.

ColorScaleData.jpg has the conditional formatting applied.

I would like the bar chart to display something similar like ColorScale2.jpg but without the data labels.

I would also like to make this chart dynamic so that different values will change the colors.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

    Re: Color Scale Bar Chart

Why do you need a chart, what's wrong with using cells?

The normal trick for automatic conditional charts is to have a series for each colour and some formula to determine whether the data point for the colour series should be applied.

You may find the number of colours and the fact you want to change the colours makes the chart difficult to maintain. In which case VBA is probably best.

Looking at your chart JPGS the only difference I can see is that the chart is horizontal rather than vertical!

if you dont want to display the cell contents but still have the bar, then just set the format to custom ;;;;, values/labels wont display but the bars will dependent on the values!

    Re: Color Scale Bar Chart

I am trying to avoid filling in cells. There are 3000+ data points, which I do not want to shoot out across so many columns. I believe a small chart would be the easiest way to view the data quickly.
Are there any ways to do this?

    Re: Color Scale Bar Chart

In order to create a chart you will still need the 3000+ data values enter somewhere on the sheet.

With that many points you will not get a small chart. Even if each slice was only a pixel width it would be 3000 pixels wide. My screen only displays 1680 so I will only see half the chart on a 22" monitor.

You might be able to use a surface chart. Although you will need to create 2 columns of you data.
