Graph help (frequency distribution)

hello.

I have a list of names (lets call them locations/places). What I’m looking to do is create a frequency distribution graph that will show how many people live in each place.

e.g. my list looks like this
London
London
London
London
London
Leeds
Sheffield
Sheffield
Leeds
Sheffield
London
Sheffield
Sheffield
London
London

Any ideas how to do this? I could do it on a package such as SPSS easily, but i dont have this at work.

I thought it would be really simple to do on Excel, but I can’t do it

You need to use formula or pivot table to summarise the data.
The chart the summary table.

Assuming your data is in A2:A16 with A1 containing a field header.
Use Data > Filter > Advance Filter. To get a unique list of locations.

Output the list in B1.

In C2 use the formula =COUNTIF($A$2:$A$16,B2)
copy down to C4

Chart B1:C4
