    Filled Area, column chart overlay

    Good Morning,

Any ideas how to bring the area charts in front of the column charts, without obscuring columns? - see example attached.

    Thanks.

You can not change the z-order of chart types. Column chart always in front of Area.

You can make the column transparent, in xl2003 by using a custom fill based on a transparent shape.

What does the area part of the chart represent?

That is fantastic, exactly the appearance I wanted. How did you select the picture to be the shape?

The area represents the spread between buy and sell sides of a rolling equity index hedge.

    Thanks!

Create a gray, transparent rectangle on the sheet.
    Select and copy, CTRL+C.
Select the column series in the chart and paste, CTRL+V
