    circular position radar chart labels

    Hi everyone,

i'm a teacher trying to make an radar chart with the human development data (2009) of every country in it. It works just fine, except for the country labels. I can't change the position in such way that every label direction is away from the centre of the radar chart. In the alignment menu i can change the position, but every label directs in the same position. I hope i made myself clear.

    thank you very much,

    Hans

    Hello Hans,

Excel chart labels are not very flexible. Some would even call them rather limited. I think I understand what you want to do, but I'm pretty certain it's not doable with Excel 2003 standard formatting.

    cheers

Here is something I created back in 2005.

Of course nowadays we would suggest you use a bar chart

    Hi,

teylyn and andy pope, thank you for your answers. I looked at the excel sheet of Andy, it's what i have i mind, but it doesn't look good in my graph. Look at my attachment and you will understand my problem. Hdi 2009 is without the macro and hdi 2009 with macro andy is of course with andy's macro.

    To be honest,

the chart in the attachment is what i have as an example. I used it several times in my class room but the data is out of date, so i wondered, i couldn't be that difficult to create it myself and change the data every year.

Re: circular position radar chart labels

First you did not adjust the formula to use your data.
Then you did not update the code to pick up the results from the new location.

Anyhow I have updated the sheet and revised the chart slightly to have the circular labels, shading and data line.

Again I think this would be much easier to read and understand if you used a bar chart.
A case of just because you can does not mean you should.

    Andy Pope,

i know you would use a regular chart, but it's much easier put this kind of chart on paper. But the most important thing is to thank you very much for this amazing result. I think i can work with excel properly but the VB part is unknown terrain for me. Can you give me a clue how you made this graph?

Re: circular position radar chart labels

The vba only does the task of setting the alignment value of each of the data labels according to the calculated value on the worksheet.
The only thing need to make the code work is the appropriate series named LABELS and the position of the angle data.

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Start the chart as a radar. You need to convert the LABELS series to a pic chart in order for the labels to work correctly.
