Primary horizontal axis picks the wrong base unit for date values, when changed it me

Title : Primary horizontal axis picks the wrong base unit for date values, when changed it messes up the dates on the horizontal axis

    Hi,

I have a chart with 2 'Line' series using the primary vertical axis (log scale) and 1 'Column' using the secondary vertical axis (default)

    My horizontal axis has dates

The problem I have is that Excel 2007 automatically picks the wrong base unit (days instead of months) for the horizontal axis. When I change it to use months it messes up my horizontal dates to dates way in the future.

My data looks like this (4 columns).

    mar-10 1.12 1.34 1
    apr -10 1.22 1.44 0
    may -10 1.33 1.55 1
    ...

The idea is to show 2 trend lines and a horizontal columns when the 4th value is 1 (indicating a recession)

The strange thing is that I have 9 sheets with different data sets but identical in setup, 7 of the sheets have a correct graph (because base unit is month) and 2 do not (base unit is days). To be clear the setup, format, setting of the graphs etc. is all identical, the actual data is different.

    Any help is appreciated

    Michiel

    OK, I found it.

The problem was with the cell that contained the date. It was getting this from an other cell which was not in a date format (but some kind of textual representation of a date).
