    Scatter Plot Series Name

    Scatter Plot Series Name Issue

Instead of the data position (and or label) I would like to get the name for the referenced location.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Re: Scatter Plot Series Name

Sure. Sorry it wasn't clear to begin with.

I have a scatter plot in the file below. For example:

    Name X Y
    AP 2 9
    BC 1 5
    DC 5 3
    CD 9 7

The datapoint would be added to 2 to the X axis and 9 on the Y axis. When I go to add the data lable it only pulls the "9". What I am looking for is a way to pull the name associated with the specific line item.

    Does that make sense?

For me you existing code determines the xVals string to be $B$2:$B$12 and then uses the values to the left of the range, which are the Names in column A.

So I think this works. What happens when you run the code?

I was wondering if this was possible without the code.

    You can either,

Apply data labels to the series and then 1 by 1 select a data label and link it to the appropriate cell.

Or create a single point series for each data point and link the series name to the cell. You will need to format each point to have the same marker formatting if you want them to appear as a single series. Or add 1 more series that is used for markers only.

I guess I am confused on how I would go about that.

When I add an additional Series all I can get is the ALL names associated with each data point. Not the individual datapoint for each name.

Check the attached file, it contains a graph that is set up as you requested.

Example has linked data labels for a single series.

And multiple series with data label showing Series name. Additional series of all points for a unified data marker.
