How to have labels span multiple data points for a graph.

I'd like to make the common labels span the data-points which share them. Currently, the label is repeated and overlaps, becoming illegible. Attached is a screenshot of what is happening.

Nice screenshot. Doesn't do much good, though, does it? How about posting the workbook with the data source, so we can see what's actually going on?

What's going on is that the chart labels are simply too long and overlap. There's nothing peculiar about this case; it isn't the manifestation of a coding bug. If it helps, I've attached a copy of a spreadsheet demonstrating the issue.

No need to repeat the outer labels, if you want them to be grouped.

Edit: Wait! What if there is another layer of repeated labels which span a smaller number of data points like here:

If I knew how, I'd look up the information myself, but I've spent an hour searching to no avail. I don't know the right search terms.

It's not clear from your example what you expect from the labels.

You just need to continue the logic to the outer labels. The span will take place across items that do not have text.
See example of 3 layer labelling.

Hi Andy, thanks but it doesn't work in my spreadsheet. What's wrong here, for example? example.xlsx

If you want the text EH-100 to span 2 sets of columns you need to add another layer. The inner most layer will be a label for each column.
If you do not want to label individual pairs of columns then use a space rather than an empty cell.
