X-Axis labels disappear when adding data table to chart

    Dear Excel Forum:

I have a strange occurence when creating charts in Excel 2003. If I create a chart with X-axis labels, then go into to "Chart Options" then click "Data Table" tab, and click "Show data table" the X-axis labels disappear and are replaced with integer series of numbers. If I deslect "show data table" the X-axis labels return? Any help with this would be greatly appeciated.

    Sincerely,
    Charles.

    I have the solution!
The chart I created has two Y-axis scales, Consequenlty it has two X-axis scales - in this case they happen to be the same values: 2000 to 2008. The issue is that the cell range for both of the "Category (X)axis labels" have to be specified. If you right click one of the data series in the chart, then click "source data" -at the bottom of the dialouge box that appears you will see: "Categoy (X)axis labels" and "Second Category (X) Axis labels" The cell ranges for both must be specied (filled in) in order to keep the labels when the data table is added.

    Cheers,

    @ phacexcel

Based on your last post it seems that you solved your issue on your own but you haven't marked your thread as SOLVED. I'll do that for you now but please keep in mind for your future threads that Rule #9 requires you to do that yourself. If your problem has not been solved you can use Thread Tools (located above your first post) and choose "Mark this thread as unsolved".
    Thanks.
