Trouble Creating A Double Bar Chart Same X Axis but Positive Values On Both Sides

    Anyone read The Economist?

I have been trying to recreate a graph similar to this one albeit with my own data. The reason for this is because I would like to compare two bar charts with the same axis titles and I think this is the best way to do it.

Is excel capable of this? Preferably, I would like to have both sides of the Y showing positive values as this is the same as my data.

you could do that with two bar charts and overlay one on top of the other.

Apart from editing bar charts as an image as you have mentioned, there is no way to do this straight off?

I didn't mention images-I just said put one chart over the other. you could do it as a stacked bar chart with some dummy series if you like that better http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/tornadochart.html

Ah. Tornado chart. I have never heard the name of this before. To Joseph and Andy thank you. @Joseph I had come across Peltier before but did not know what to type in to find the information (in both Peltier and in Forum search). @Andy, like Blake 7 has said before me, thanks very much. I will have to digest your post to learn. To be honest, I'm struggling to understand why there is Pad and 2 xy series needed.

2 xy series are used to label the two section of the horizontal axis.
The pad series is used to display the category labels centered in between the vertical axes

I am also keen to do this but both sets of data are positive, population numbers males females by age (y axis)
