line graph with multiple data series vs. time/date leaves out most data

    Hi,
I'm new here and am trying to graph data from an off-grid power system. I have several data series and I want to track them all vs. time/date. I have a data acquisition system that provides hourly data for several data items. I can make a chart with little difficulty, but Excel seems to make lots of assumption about what I'm trying to do that are really wrong. Sometimes the graph looks correct, but fine-tuning the x-axis (time/date) has caused the data to be filtered somehow so that only one data point appears for each day. When this happens and I try to format the x-axis I'm only able to deal with full days, not hours (for instance "minor" unit has choices for days, months or years). What the heck is happening?

    Hi
is your x-axis data in the worksheet in date and time format e.g. "dd/mmm/yy hh:mm:ss"
if so, try using an xy scatter chart rather than a line chart - this should scale your x-axis properly

Thanks so much! It really bugs me that Excel doesn't work as I think it should, but this is a great work-around!
