    Long list of items, printed 14"x8 1/2", difficult to align eyeball across page

    I suspect my question has been asked before, but I can't find the answer as I'm not sure how to ask the question!

    I'm submitting insurance papers with a complete list of items burned in the Waldo Canyon Fire. Farmers wants a lot of detail for each item. When I look at the printed output, I can't keep my eyes aligned from one end to the other. I'm sure they (Farmers) will have the same problem.

    Back in the days of chain printers, paper came with three lines of highlighted, usually light green, followed by three lines of unshaded paper. This made it very easy to keep continuity from end to end.

    I'd like to do the same thing on paper as I print my lists.

    Is it possible? How please? I'm a programmer, but spend little time with applications like Word, Excel, etc.

    Thank you, Derick Moore

    You can apply conditional formatting to the sheet to change the background colour subject to some condition - the condition here would be based on the row number, so suppose you had a formula to govern the CF as:

    =MOD(ROW(),2)=1

    this would give you a coloured background for all odd-numbered rows. Even-numbered rows would be unaffected, so this would give you the effect that old line-printer paper used if you set the background colour to pale green or pale blue.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you Pete,

    Even with my limited experience with Excel, I get it!

    (I should have realized that would be the method, but I most certainly did not!)
