How do I combine 2 columns (e.g. month and day) into a timeline x-axis

Hey people, I'm an analyst that does a lot of prototyping in Excel (with hope they'll get incorporated into BI-type dashboard visualization applications).

Today I'm feeling lazy - do I have to create an extra column to concatenate my month and day columns to create a daily chart?
