Gantt Chart: unable to set calendar month as x axis ?

    Hello,

I am trying to pruduce a gantt chart in excel 2010, that enables calendar months to be used as the unit type on the 'x' axis. I'm not sure if this is possible or not?

I have a file (see attached) which was based on an example template I found on the web which used 'weeks' as the unit type. I soon realised that for me I needed months not weeks. After looking at the axis options, I realised I couldn't fix the major unit field to a given number in order to represent calendar months..... I am missing something obvious here? Help please

    Regards

    Hi Niciwhite,

    Welcome to the forum.
Hope you had found the solution to this query, if not consider below:-

If you wish to show months on x-axis, you need to rollup your data on monthly basis.. for example B3and B4 are two dates in Dec only and you need to aggregate both to show as "Dec". when you are done with creating this new column of "month", you can easily change the reference in chart. thanks.

    Hi Dilipandey

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, it is very much appreciated. Currently I haven't resolved the query; having looked at your reply I fully understand the principle of creating a new column of 'month' but I am still stuck on how to excute the change to the chart. I know I must be missing something obvious here but just can't get to work right.

    Hi niciwhite,

Its good that you understood the need of creating a new column, now once you create that column and done with aggregation, just give the reference of the same in Series1 of the chart.. thats it

Re: Gantt Chart: unable to set calendar month as x axis ?

    Hi Niciwhite,

Had a similar problem when I had to project data on a monthly basis for a couple of thousand records. Using the DATE() formula really helped force it to the 01st of every month.

Attached is the formula in column F. I've also substituted the values in series one with those in column F (as suggested by DiliPandey)

    Example - High Level Gantt_v3.xlsx

    best regards, Dims
