Adding and then averaging data in a pivot table

    Hello.

I have a large batch of data (small example attached) and I need to first sum it by product and then average it by person. (only one person is shown in the temp data)

Seems like this would be a job for a pivot table but I can't figure out how to do both steps at the same time. As of right now, I am making a pivot table to sum the values by product then copying that data to another sheet and averaging it in another PT. Yeah, rookie move.

I thought of using PT one as a source for PT two. Didn't know if I can do that or if there is an easier way all together.

    Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Cheers,
    Todd

Yeah, now I realize I wasn't that clear. See attached sheet. I am looking for the final number for Gary (20) but I need to sum the individual products first.

I looked at it, but can't find the answer.

you can't do that in a regular pivot table. in powerpivot probably but not otherwise

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

Thanks for your help. I actually got around the problem but creating a sumif(s) column that added the data for me. Then I was able to just average it using a pivot table.

    Have nice Thursday.

Sure thing. I think this accurately explains it.

This is just made up data that is very different from what I use it for but the mechanics are still the same.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense.
