Using two filters on a Pivot table

    Hello,

My company charges it's various offices by a 3-tier structure, with each tier being a 3-digit number (ex. 123-456-789). I'm trying to make a table that'll show me how many users are on a given cell-phone plan, filtered by tier. Is it possible to have the filters interact with each other? For example, if I were to use the first filter to select "123" can I get the other filter to only show items where the first 3 digits are "123"?

    Thanks.

    not sure
    1) where your tier number is in the list - costcenter has 9 digits - so are you trying to just use the first 3 digits to filter ? or Loc ? loc appears to have 2 digits
    2) what other items in the example will start with the 3 digits

    if you filter by 123
will any of the data "other elements" have 123 in the first 3 digits

i need alittle further clarification and using the actual data on the spreadsheet

The tier number is the costcenter, it's a combination of the LOB, SL, and LOC. The goal is to be able to filter by LOB, and then the second filter will display all costcenters that begin with this LOB. I don't think any LOB's are actually 123, it was just a general number.

    Sorry for the confusion.

if you include the LOB & Costcentre in the pivot table you can then filter by LOB and it will show all costcentres and subtotals and totals

and depending on what you want to show - depends how you order the rows

    see attached 2 versions

I think you can use slicers in a hierarchy to make them dependant on each other - I did this once - but cant remember how or if i did do it that way - or powerpivot

BUT what version of excel are you using ?

I'm using Excel 2010. I know I can do this with rows, I was just hoping to be able to do it with filters instead. I'll try the slicers, though! Thanks.

no , filters show all available data and are not dependant on each other - i have had a search and not sure how i did this before and cant find a solution, hopefully, someone will know and reply

Maybe I'm missing something but this is how I understand what you want.
