Labeling the x-axis on a scatter plot at specific points

I am looking to label the x-axis on a scatter plot at specific points: 1.134, 5.432, 15.837, etc. My x-axis is distance and I have specific points along the line which need to be given specific names.

The points which make up the data in the scatter plot may or may not fall on these labels, but the labels will be a nice reference for the reader.

Is there any way to have excel apply these labels for me?

I have attached some of the graphs I'm working on for reference.

You might look at the "arbitrary axis" technique described by Jon Peltier. I expect that some variation of this technique will do what you want to do. http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ArbitraryAxis.html
