Not able to refresh all my pivots

    Hello,

I have a workbook with different sheets and on each sheets there is a pivot table linked to the same .cub file (locally saved).

Now when I open the workbook and start changing the report filters after the 4 pivot (doesn't matter the order of picking the pivots) I get the following error messages:

    1) The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

    or

    2) Datafile C:\Cubes\ALL.cub cannot be found. Do you want to make a connection with C:\Cubes\ALL.cub? (if I answer yes I get in a loop and need to close Excel)

Now when I close down Excel and reopen it is working again for 4 pivots. Also note that I can still use the 4 pivots even after I got the message but not a 5 one.

Any idea what can cause this and how to solve, as this workbook needs to be used professionally and reopening it is not really a good solution :-)

Thanks in advance, have a nice day,

    Ronny

My first question is, what's a .cub file? I am not familiar with this file type, but suspect that it may have something to do with your problem.

Re: Not able to refresh all my pivots

    Hello Zambolj,
    Here the definition:
An offline cube file is a file with .cub extension that stores a portion of the source data from an OLAP server database. This allows you to continue to make changes to PivotTable and PivotChart reports when the server is unavailable or you're disconnected from the network.

An offline cube file can speed up changes to your reports, especially if your network connection to the OLAP server is slow. However, if your OLAP database is large and you want the cube file to provide access to a large subset of the data, you'll need to provide ample disk space, and saving the file may be time consuming.

    have a nice day,

    Ronny

Did the file ever allow you to refresh all pivot tables without the error and it suddenly started, or has the error always happened?

What if you import the data to the spreadsheet itself, rather than link to the other file?

I do not know how to work with a .cub file, and like I said, I suspect this has something to do with your problem. Only other things I can think of are to try to isolate the problem: save the Excel sheet under a different name and delete all but one chart, then all but two, and continue working with combinations of smaller numbers of your charts to see if you can isolate the error. You could also try having the .cub file open when you try to update. If you don't want to open manually every time and this works, you could write a fairly simple macro to open the .cub file, update charts, and close the .cub file.
