Filtering Data Pivot Table is Based On - Impact on Pivot Table

    Hi Excel Friends,

I have a pivot table that is based on a table of data. My understanding is that if I filter the original table of data using a simple filter it does NOT impact the pivot table - the pivot table still sums the TOTAL data. Has anyone found a way around this? I'm hoping to be able to filter the table and have the pivot table adjust accordingly.

I tested this using a simple example, and it didn't work. I researched a bit and don't think it's possible, but wanted to check here.

In fact, when I tested using a simple example, filtering the table caused the Pivot Table to act strangely, so I don't think it's going to work either way.

    Thanks,
    Ben

filtering the source data does not affect the pivot-you have to apply the same filter to the pivot to reflect the same change

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to
