linking a cell in a text box on a chart

In previous versions of Excel I could create a textbox on my chart and have it reference a value in a certain cell.
In the text box I would type ='Sheet1'!$AT$4. The data from this cell would show up in the box.

I now have Excel 2010 and I am trying to do this and it will not work.

Is there a way in Excel 2010 to still do this?

    Thank you

yes-it works the same as before. what problem are you facing specifically? (remember you have to click on the edge of the textbox to select it instead of entering text mode, then type = in the formula bar and select the cell)

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

Thanks, that worked! I forgot I had to enter it that way!

Do you know if a group of cells can be entered. Before we did each one cell in separate text boxes. It would cut my work down significatly if I could just do them all together.

Here is the data I need:

Oh, and I would like it to be linked so when the data changes, It will automatically update the data in the text box.....If it is even possible.

you can only link one cell to one text box but you could use the camera tool to paste a linked image of that table onto the chart

Re: linking a cell in a text box on a chart

That is what I thought. I tried to capture an image, and it would not let me on the Excel sheet. It would only do it for the programs that I had open and not minimized to the task bar.

I am just going to do it the hard way-times 8 graphs

    Thank you for your help!

I was referring to the camera tool in excel, not the snipping tool (you can customize the QAT, choose 'commands not in the ribbon', then scroll down to Camera.
then select the table, click the camera button and draw onto the chart

Re: linking a cell in a text box on a chart

The camera tool in Excel is way cool, I just can not get it to stay linked on my chart. When I try to paste it to my chart, it is actually on the spreadsheet and not on the chart (Will not print on the chart.) When I cut and paste, it looses its link.

the picture should print over your chart-you can also group it with the chart

Talking Re: linking a cell in a text box on a chart

Nope, It would not do either. I just manually did all the graphs like I did not want to originally want to do.

I am going to play with the camera more though. I even showed my mom. She teaches Microsoft Office applications at a local college for the faculty and did not even know that! (She just teached beginners stuff and never uses Excel herself, so she does not get to use a lot of the cool stuff that I do!)

Thank you again for your help!
