Remove a variable in legend box - and revoke it again

I have a chart set up for 4 different variables, but sometimes my dataset has nothing in variable no. 4, so I remove it from the legend box. This can be done either by marking it in the box and pressing 'Delete' or with VBA, like e.g.:

The chart still has all four variables, but now only three are shown in the legend box

If a new data set does contain data for entry no. 4, I of course want it back again in the legend box, but I can't find out how.

you will need to remove the entire legend and then reapply it. The is no undelete of legend entry removal.
